I get this question all the time. I think that everyone knows they need a professional corporate headshot photograph but they think it’s going to cost a fortune. The answer? It really depends on how much you value your personal brand. Let me explain. Most people take hours if not days putting together a CV. They want the best CV possible so they can land that job, close that deal, or get a meeting this a prospect. What you may not know, is that according to a 2018 CareerBuilder survey, 70% of employers use social media to screen candidates during the hiring process. That is a significant number so you need to make sure your profile is up to scratch.
But is your headshot photograph really that important?
They say it takes 7 seconds for people to make a first impression when meeting them in person. However, if they are looking at a photograph it has been estimated that it takes a tenth of a second to form that same opinion. Knowing that the first thing people will look at in a profile you need to make sure it is the right photograph.
I’m still amazed at the number of people that put so much effort into their LinkedIn profile and then use any old photo. At the very least, get someone else to take your photograph. Ideally, you need to get your photograph captured by a professional headshot photographer. Professional headshot photographers know how to get the best look for each person and design an image that sends the right language.
So, is headshot photography expensive? I certainly don’t think so. As an example, as a session with me is $275 and you leave with 3 professional, retouched images. This will take your online presence to the next level. It’s actually quite inexpensive to stand out from the competition. You will convey a more professional image and will be a massive benefit in getting to the next round. Afterall….. your image represents you when you are not there.
